DIGITIZATION CAN BE THE NEXT ENGINE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN BULGARIA

Digitization creates opportunities for all industries and can be the next engine for economic growth in Bulgaria according to Terry Li – General Manager of “Huawei Technologies Bulgaria” during the conference “Digital Sofia – the smart city”, organized by Sofia Municipality and the “Digital Bulgaria” Foundation “.
Terry Li also stated that
“countries worldwide are focusing on developing their digital economies to counter economic challenges. Each country, depending on its stage of development, will follow unique paths to digital growth, and different industries and organizations will choose the most appropriate approach.”
Bulgaria and other countries already have digital and green strategies to improve urban life.
“The Bulgarian ICT market has seen remarkable growth, with its turnover increasing by 300% in the last seven years and reaching 2.5 billion euros, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). Bulgaria’s rich tradition in the IT sector attracts numerous enterprises. The country’s open and fair business environment for foreign investors further adds to its appeal”
stated Terry Li, general manager of a leading technology company.
During a recent event, Huawei presented its “smart cities” solution, demonstrating its implementation in various locations around the world. The use of smart solutions demonstrates their value for the benefit of city residents, businesses and managers. Examples include energy efficient smart lighting, improved traffic management and green solutions to reduce pollution.
As part of the digital transformation journey, Huawei aims to provide comprehensive smart city approaches, supporting cities with real-time data to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Martin Zahariev, coordinator of the event and member of the Board of Directors of the Digital Bulgaria Foundation, emphasized that a smart city requires the efforts of smart people and this conference plays an important role in the ongoing process of digital transformation.
The conference aimed to accelerate the use of electronic and technological services by administration and business, to promote innovation through financial mechanisms and to provide opportunities for innovation in the urban environment. It also served as a platform to inform citizens and stakeholders about local e-governance initiatives and the “smart city” concept.
During the event, the government, business representatives and stakeholders pooled their efforts, united by a common vision for digitization and the promotion of the future of modern technological solutions in Bulgaria.
