Technological trends

Three key trends are emerging in design software. The first is the use of cloud services that enhance collaboration and allow access from any device and location. These services provide large computational and storage capacity, enabling complex and large-scale simulations and tests.

The second trend is the introduction of additive manufacturing, more commonly known as 3D printing, which enables the creation of complex and customised products. This process greatly accelerates the testing and validation of design and simulation results through rapid prototyping.

Finally, artificial intelligence and machine learning are key new directions in the development of the CAD/CAM/CAE sector. These technologies automate and optimize design and simulation tasks, helping to generate design alternatives, detect errors and improve product performance and quality.

The Bulgarian CAD/CAM market

In recent times, Bulgaria has seen an increase in the use of design solutions, affecting various sectors such as manufacturing, construction, medicine and dentistry. CAD systems play an important role in this as they make work easier, increase productivity and help reduce errors.

There are companies such as CAD Point, Ditra, David Holding, SpaceCAD and Persy that offer design solutions. The Digitalk 101 rankings show the last two years’ results of these companies. Although organisations in the sector are growing, they are not usually among the largest IT companies in Bulgaria and occupy positions in the second half of the ranking.

SpaceCAD and David Holding are two of the companies reporting the largest year-on-year increase in revenue. SpaceCAD has revenues of BGN 2.9 million and ranks 104th in the ranking, while David Holding ranks 101st with revenues of BGN 4.3 million.

Especially with the rapid growth of both the CAD/CAM and generative AI fields, more and more positions are opening up for designers. The rapid automation of workflow makes computer-assisted design one of the most attractive fields for workers.
