The World Network of Enterprises and Persons with Disabilities and the Fundación ONCE of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) from Spain have produced the report ‘Inclusive Digital Economy for Persons with Disabilities’ within the framework of the Centre for Disability Europe, a project led and co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF).
The report analyses how access to digital tools and digital skills training affects the ability of persons with disabilities to thrive in the digital labour market and how lack of it, puts them at a disadvantage. Challenges range from skills requirements and technological barriers to working conditions such as low and irregular pay, long working hours, or isolation.
The report identifies three elements that can support persons with disabilities to participate in the digital labour market:
- Ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities
- Promoting digital skills for people with disabilities
- Promoting the digital employment of people with disabilities
Digital tools play a central role in the entire lifecycle of employees and the report strongly focuses on the need for inclusive and accessible technologies and training that should be available to all citizens.
