An inclusive digital economy for people with disabilities

The World Network of Enterprises and Persons with Disabilities and the ONCEFoundation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Spain produced a report on “An inclusive and digital economy for people with disabilities” at the European Disability Centre, a project led and co-financed by the European Social Fund.

The reportlooks at how access to digital tools and training in digital skills affect the ability of persons with disabilities to thrive in the digital labour market. Challenges range from skills requirements and technological barriers to working conditions, such as low and irregular wages, long working hours or isolation.

Thereport identifies three elements that can support persons with disabilities to participate in the digital labour market:

  1. Ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities
  2. Promoting digital skills for people with disabilities
  3. Promoting digital employment of people with disabilities

Digital tools play a central role throughout the lifecycle of staff and the report puts a strong emphasis on the need for inclusive and accessible technologies and training, which should be available to all citizens.
