This report proposes a set of future orientations for science and policy on artificial intelligence and children’s rights. It links research and policy in order to generate knowledge through interaction between different stakeholders and go beyond the identification of ethical guidelines on methods for future practical implementation.
As regards the formulation of the proposed orientations, existing relevant policy initiatives by major international organisations and recent coordinated actions by the European Commission in the field of AI, as well as state-of-the-art scientific work on AI technologies for children, with a focus on three applications, conversation agents, recommender systems and robotic systems, have been taken into account.
In addition, they are seen as results of two workshops with young people and three workshops with experts and policy makers that have contributed to the formulation of a set of requirements, methods and knowledge gaps as an integrated agenda for research and policy on AI and children’s rights.
