This report presents an analysis of cybersecurity education carried out by the REWIRE project, the Cybersecurity Skills Alliance, funded under the European Commission’s Erasmus + programme.
In this report, REWIRE provides a political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental analysis of skills gaps and skills mismatches affecting cybersecurity education. It is a systemic approach that provides a way of understanding the different shortcomings and challenges from different perspectives.
The European cybersecurity industry faces a number of challenges, including:
- Insufficient infrastructure (equipment and skills).
- Inability to attract more students to study in cybersecurity and to create graduates with “adequate cybersecurity knowledge and skills”.
- It is difficult for education and training institutions to adapt to and respond to changes in a timely manner.
The shortage of skilled workers has a direct impact on the cybersecurity labour market. This analysis will therefore serve as a basis for developing a cybersecurity skills strategy for Europe.
