A central issue in skills policy planning for any emerging technology is that (a) there is little information about the type of jobs for which skills are sought, (b) technology-related jobs have not been linked to the formal job framework that is used for forecasting purposes, and (c) the occupational distribution of skills is likely to become rapidly outdated as the emerging technology is adopted in an increasingly wide range of sectors and business operations.
In response to these challenges, this report presents a single methodological framework that estimates the current demand for blockchain skills through the use of data scrapping technologies. The report identifies blockchain related jobs in the occupational classification and develops forecasts for both blockchain professionals and new qualified Blockchain graduates for the period 2020-2026. The study also uses Eurostat data and a survey carried out by Chaise partners to estimate the supply of ICT and blockchain specific graduates per country for that period.
The resulting forecasts will allow the EU and Member States to assess the extent to which labour market imbalances are likely to emerge in the short term that could hamper the development of the blockchain sector.
