Blockchain skills forecasting – Annual report (2022) – Clothes

The main challenge in terms of skills policy planning for each emerging technology is that (a) there is little knowledge about the type of jobs where skills are needed, (b) technology-related jobs have not been linked to the formal job framework used for anticipation purposes, and (c) the distribution of skills is likely to be rapidly outdated as emerging technologies are adopted in an increasingly wide range of sectors and economic activities.

In response to these challenges, this report presents a single methodological framework that estimates the current demand for blockchain skills using data collection technologies. The report identifies blockchain related jobs in the classification of professions and develops forecasts for both blockchain professionals and new skilled Blockchain graduates for the period 2020-2026. The study also uses Eurostat data and a survey among Chaise partners to estimate the supply of ICT graduates, as well as blockchain per country over a given period of time.

The resulting forecasts will allow the EU and Member States to assess to what extent imbalances in the labour market are likely to emerge in the short term, which could hamper the development of the blockchain sector.

The competency forecasting model used to produce the report is available here.
