Using the concept of smart and green cities, Cedefop’s recent policy document looks at how VET can help cities become smarter and greener, thus facilitating the European Green Deal, the EU’s growth strategy and the policy response to the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation.
The European Green Deal provides the basis for the EU to become a competitive and resource-efficient economy with net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while ensuring a just transition for all.
Cedefop’s skills forecast scenario, which analysed the implications of the European Green Deal for 2 030 in terms of vocational education and training and skills, shows that the creation of skills – both initial and throughout the working life – will be crucial for the employment of the newly created jobs and the transition of workers towards greener sectors and occupations.
