JRC Technical Report "Developing the market share of robotics in the EU market: Data and methodology’ is published by the European Commission in the context of AI Watch, launched by the European Commission in December 2018.
AI Watch monitors the European Union’s industrial, technological and research capacity in the field of artificial intelligence; Artificial intelligence policy initiatives in the Member States; deployment and technological development of artificial intelligence; and the impact of AI. AI Watch focuses on Europe in a global environment. Within AI Watch, the Commission works in coordination with Member States. AI Watch results and analyses are published on the AI Watch portal.
AI has become an area of strategic importance as it has the potential to become a key driver of economic development. AI also has a wide range of possible social consequences. As part of its Digital Single Market Strategy, the European Commission presented in April 2018 a European strategy on artificial intelligence in its Communication “Artificial Intelligence for Europe”.
The report focuses on developments in artificial intelligence and robotics and the demand for skills that Europeans will need to work with robotics and automation. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics have changed the demand for skills. As these technologies develop and change, the workforce needs to change its nature in order to keep up with the demands of evolving technology.
