Strengthening skills in semiconductors: Join the discussion and find project partners!
Second objective: Theopen call, funded under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, aims at increasing the share of students choosing ICT, and in particular semiconductor disciplines, and reducing gender imbalances through joint action by higher education institutions and SMEs, including start-ups. Consortia may apply for one or both of the actions, namely the Academic Network and Vocational Training, described below.
Academic network
Theproposed project is necessary forthedevelopment of a European Semiconductor Skills Academy: a European network of higher education institutions and relevant industries, including microelectronics start-ups and SMEs, to address the above issues. The focus should be on increasing the number of students enrolled from secondary schools and ensuring the availability in higher education institutions’ curricula of topics that address the needs of industry, as well as top topics in the sector, such as chip design.
The Academy should address, for example:
- identify relevant courses, jointly verified with industry partners, building on existing curricula or newly selected top topics, which should eventually lead to an automatic recognition of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) at university level
- modernisation of university laboratories to provide identified courses;
- cooperation agreements resulting in practical experience in industry and funded by industry under student curricula;
- involving start-ups and SMEs as beneficiaries of student mobility;
- communication actions and initiatives targeting publi
Training
Theproposed project must define a platform among vocational and educational training centres (VET), industry, in particular start-ups and SMEs, academia and social partners, to respond to the need for continuous vocational training to increase employability, for example by:
- identification of the relevant content of the training, jointly verified with the industry partners;
- Bootcamp camps on specific semiconductor topics verified by start-ups and SMEs, including;
- training programmes involving SMEs as beneficiaries of the mobility of technicians;
- recognition of specific education and training programmes in the field of semiconductors and light semiconductors across Europe;
- addressing the gender dimension of employability in the sector;
- apprenticeships in start-ups and SMEs and online training addressing the employability of migrants and immigrants.
Composition of consortia:
- minimum 5 applicants (beneficiaries; unrelated entities) from 5 different eligible countries.
- The consortium should demonstrate a good balance between semiconductor companies and higher education institutions or VET providers in Europe. Research and technology organisations, research centres or foundations and any other institution active in the semiconductor sector may be part of the consortium.
Funding:
- total budget of EUR 10.000,000
- up to EUR 5.000,000per project
- The duration of the project is 48 months
The planned date for the opening of the receipt of the proposals is 11 May 2023. Term
the deadline for applications is 26 September 2023 at 17: 00 (Brussels time).
