Forecasting Blockchain Skills – Annual Report (2022) – Chaise

The main challenge in skills policy planning for each emerging technology is that (a) there is little knowledge of the type of jobs where skills are required, (b) technology-related jobs have not been linked to the formal professional framework used for anticipation purposes, and (c) the division of skills occupations is likely to be rapidly outdated as emerging technology is adopted in an expanding spectrum of sectors and business activities.

In response to these challenges, this report outlines a unique methodological framework that estimates the current demand for blockchain skills using data collection technologies. The report allocates blockchain-related jobs within the classification of occupations and produces forecasts for both overall blockchain professionals and newly qualified blockchain graduates for the period 2020-2026. The study also uses Eurostat data and a Chaise partner survey to estimate the supply of ICT graduates and blockchain technologies for each country over a given period.

The resulting projections will allow the EU and individual Member States to assess to what extent labour market imbalances are likely to occur in the short term that could hamper the development of the blockchain sector.

The skills forecast model used to produce the report is available here.
