How to do graduates in the transition to a digitally transformed job – Skillnet Ireland study

This study strengthened the significant impact of digital transformation on customer offerings, business operating models and work processes, tasks and activities. He highlights how these changes affect the social dynamics of the workplace, from leadership styles and management practices to the real experience of the work itself.

One of the main findings was that, due to the automation of work, graduates face steeper learning curves while facing the erosion of the “safe space” in which they learn. This may jeopardise their successful transition from universities to the labour market and deserves further research. This new study, conducted during 2021, reflects the lessons learned from the more than 1000 people currently working in Ireland and specifically analyses how 12 % of these respondents, who are current graduates in Ireland, are undergoing a transition from university to work.

Research shows that graduates quickly switch to more advanced tasks and activities that require a higher level of skills. The Committee also points out that graduates are not convinced of their entrepreneurial spirit, problem solving and technological skills. However, most worrying is that burnout levels are reported. This level of burnout can be linked to the erosion of safe learning spaces previously used by graduates.
