This brochure is the result of a collaboration between six international organisations that gathered to provide an overview of career guidance, its global needs, how it is organised, etc.
The new edition published in 2021 is an updated version of the first brochure published in 2019. Since then, joint international efforts have reflected the fact that the need for leadership has increased significantly as people have remained longer in education and training and the pressure on people to upskill and reskill has increased.
Today, the labour market is even more storm than in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply disrupted labour demand and accelerated automation and digital transformation models, which radically change the nature of work and increase the risk of unemployment and precarious employment. Career guidance therefore plays a key role in recovery plans and in helping people of all ages and backgrounds to face such disruptions. Data analytics give policymakers confidence that investing in guidance could bring positive economic, educational and social benefits for both individuals and society.
