The #DigitalDecade4YOUth consultation collected input from more than 750 children and young people and asked the question “How to make Europe’s Digital Decade fit for Children and Youth”? The consultation was launched following the European Commission’s announcement in March 2021 for the EU’s Digital Decade, a forward-looking vision for Europe’s digital transformation by 2030. On behalf of the European Commission, children, young people, parents, carers and educators across the European Union (and beyond) were consulted in the context of the Better Internet for Children initiative between May and October 2021. The topics covered by this survey were also discussed at theSafer Internet Forum (SIF), which took place online on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 October 2021. The findings and insights from participants are summarised in the report “Making Europe’s Digital Decade fit for Children and Youth”, which also makes recommendations to policy makers on the needs and challenges of the next decade. The report is divided into three sections and includes the preamble of the European Commission. It presents children’s and young people’s views on the challenges of the digital environment, their views on online risks and safety, and advice and recommendations on policy measures to promote safe, ethical and inclusive online spaces.
