In 2021, eSkills Malta published the results of its demand and supply monitoring project in a report entitled "Monitoring ICT skills and supply. It provides an analysis of the demand and supply of Maltese ICT skills. As in most European Union countries, Malta faces similar challenges in terms of ICT skills, in particular the growing need for ICT specialists, but also a shortage of ICT students. In addition, the report points to an additional gap: between the skills needed in the sector and those taught by educational institutions.
The purpose of this report is to guide and inform Maltese stakeholders on skills, upskilling and training to ensure that the policies set by the Maltese government, the work programme of eSkills Malta and curricula of educational institutions are in line with the skills needs of industry.
The analysis is based on in-depth research, consisting of a survey and interviews with key stakeholders from the Maltese ICT sector. The project uses the European Digital Competence Framework as a reference for the competences and skills needed in the ICT sector.
The main findings of the analysis of the data collected and the interviews are divided into five categories:
- Demand and supply
- Education
- Training, skills and certification
- Professional organisations and recognition of professions
- Technologies
The full report is available in English below and provides an overview of the ICT situation in Malta across all technology sectors and occupations. The report analyses the current and future situation with regard to emerging technologies and makes recommendations on the way forward for society, businesses and stakeholders.
