Following the publication by the European Commission in March 2021 of the Communication on the Digital Compass: The European way for the Digital Decade,a set of consultations, including this Eurobarometer, was launched to get EU citizens’ perspective on the proposed digital principles for a European way of digital transformation. These principles would aim to promote a values-based European digital environment in order to contribute to the development of more democratic and inclusive societies and to ensure a level playing field for all EU citizens to access and exploit the full potential of an increasingly digital world.
This survey was conducted by Kantar in the 27 EU Member States between 16 September and 15 October 2021. Around 26,530 respondents from different social and demographic groups were invited to comment on the following areas:
— EU citizens see the role that digital tools and the internet will play in their lives.
raising EU citizens’ awareness of the application and protection of rights online.
— Respondents’ perception of a common European vision of digital rights and principles.
This survey was commissioned by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT), as part of the Communication "Digital Compass: The European way for the Digital Decade’.
