The potential impact of Artificial Intelligence on equity and inclusion in education

This OECD report examines the role of AI in promoting equity and inclusion within education, exploring the benefits, challenges, and policy implications of AI adoption. AI applications are categorised within educational settings into three main areas that are made to improve educational experiences, aid teaching, or support institutional goals: learner-centred tools, teacher-led tools, and institutional tools.

While the report highlights the various opportunities that AI applications present, such as personalised learning, support for students with special needs, and administrative efficiencies, it also addresses some of the key challenges involved, such as with bias, privacy, accessibility, teacher training.

The aim of the report is to encourage policymakers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to consider inclusion and equity when adopting AI systems. The report recommends implementing strong data privacy measures, ensuring transparency in AI systems, supporting continuous teacher training, and developing policies that ensure equitable access to AI tools across all educational contexts.
